Dr. Drake trained in Nephrology with Belding Scribner in Seattle. After his return to Prtland, Orgeon he partnered with inventor Charles Willock to design the Drake Willock dialysis machine. During this interview he recounts the early days of acute and chronic dialysis. Slices and Tastings highlight his collaboration with Charles Willock, the design of the Drake Willock machine and the use of the Drake Willock machines around the world.

DWM: Today is Thursday, January 31, 2008, and today I am talking to Dr. Richard Drake and we are conducting this interview in Dr. Drake's home in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Drake attended medical school at the University of Oregon and graduated from there in 1959. While practicing nephrology in 1963, he worked with Charles Willock to design a new dialysis machine. The Drake Willock machine was subsequently used around the world for dialysis therapy. And Dr. Drake, I thank you for letting me come today to talk to you about the history of nephrology.
